Application Instructions for Hosting a CRA-W/CDC Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) Recruitment Event
Contact: CRA-W/CDC DLS Co-Directors Nancy M. Amato and Dilma da Silva
email: dls [at] cra.org.
Applications accepted anytime.
The DLS welcomes all interested computer science and computer engineering departments to apply to host DLS recruitment events. Neighboring institutions are welcome and encouraged to propose a joint event. We are particularly interested in applications that include institutions that have significant numbers of students from groups underrepresented in computing, such as women and minorities.
Institutions interested in hosting a CRA-W/CDC Distinguished Lecture recruitment event should submit an application that includes the following information to dls [at] cra.org. After an application is accepted, the DLS Co-Directors will work with the local host(s) to identify speakers for the event.
1. Contact people: a local host for each participating institution, which ideally will be a female or minority faculty member; a representative of the host department's administration, e.g., department head/chair or the colloquia/seminar chair; and a student liaison. Please provide email addresses and telephone numbers.
2. Information about the institutions (please provide the following information for all participating institutions): degrees offered in participating departments, size of program in terms of numbers of undergraduate students, number of graduate students, and number of faculty, including the percentage of women and minorities in each category.
3. Scheduling constraints and logistics: start and end of the Fall and Spring terms, preferred or unavailable dates, time and day of the week of any regular colloquium series, closest airport and distance to it.
4. Mechanisms and plans for publicity and outreach: mailing lists of undergraduates, local women and minority organizations, or related departments whose faculty and students may be interested. Are there any active (formal or informal) women's or minority groups (student or faculty) in computer science and engineering at the institution? Are there viable opportunities to cooperate with nearby colleges or community colleges for even greater impact (if so, then the organizers are encouraged to consider a joint application that formally includes the other institution)?
Information regarding the DLS program is available on the DLS website. Please contact the DLS Co-Directors at dls [at] cra.org for further information about the program or hosting an event.
